This was one of Portland's nicest weekends thus far, and it was certainly the most relaxing weekend I've had in a very, very long time; homework, grading, and delegating have mostly subsided. With the aid of Damien Jurado's newest album (purchase it), we drifted out toward Forest Grove, without a care for timeliness or deadline. We were surprised that we could check-in so early, but this aided in our jaunt down to McMinnville to visit a different McMenamins: Hotel Oregon. I've always wanted to experience the rooftop bar, and that we did. We got minorly lost on the way and my left arm got minorly burnt while driving. But once I spotted that familiar neon Terminator logo, my heart (liver?) was warmed in a foreign town. The conversation Sarah and I had four stories heavenward will be as memorable as the views we enjoyed amidst "wine country."
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening. I surprised Sarah with a card and gift (small mp3 player) and we made our rounds to Grand Lodge's many hot-spots. We concluded the evening by sipping wine under the stars and chatting about John's theology while people were getting absolutely drunk a couple hundred feet from our picnic table. The morning was pleasant and we found ourselves quite refreshed as we packed up and departed. Sarah and I both very highly recommend investing in the Hammerhead package, which works at all Mcmenamins hotels (Kennedy School, Edgefield, Grand Lodge, etc).
Pit-tures?

Rooftop! Din-din outside!

Lit-up! Ivy-dragon!

Sam! You found my blog! How did you do it?? You're sneaky for sure. Yes, I admit I am addicted to Summer Strickland I'm drawn like a moth to light to his hawaiian shirts, linen pants and sandals. What can be better than a theology professor who teaches the word, and simultaneously tells stories about being kicked in the face, or about learning a dance to "lovely hula hands"? By the way are you aware that your "Mike Irvine" link, links us to Jim Velez?
You guys are cute. Even if I am second best, I appreciate your time. And thank you for making that particular Arrested Development reference. And thank you for keeping your beard for as long as you have. And thank you for almost being 24, which is like middle-aged. You. Are. So. Old. And. So. Wise.
Melody, the Jim Velez link is proudly intentional. I did that because Mike Irvine and Jim Velez have identical philosophic outlooks.
Ryan, as sweet as you are, you have my age wrong. I'm actually almost a quarter of a century. I used to always confuse decades with centuries and just now had to sit and think about that for a second - a sign of old age. Also, I think you may need to reserve that Friday before you leave for some partying, no?
